This week brought sand along with the snow, yes, sand! It gave the mountains a stunning sepia tone, although by today the mountains were back to their usual colour of beautiful white as the snow came back as well as beautiful sunshine. Although most of Grandvalira remains closed, Soldeu and El Tarter sectors are open, and skiing is available for residents as well as some international guests. For the latest updates on Covid and visiting Andorra please see our Covid page , and for recent photos, including the odd-looking sandy mountains, you can see our Facebook page.
We took the gondola of Soldeu and enjoyed the beautiful views of the town while moving up. Despite it was Tuesday the resort was a bit busier than usual, and we could find people in practically every run.
The sun was very strong, so we had to reapply sunscreen through the day, and the temperatures were rounding the 0 degrees. We skied both Soldeu and Tarter areas which are connected, and the snow was very good on the top areas with coverages up to 80 cm, however, a bit hard on the lower runs that are mostly on the shadow, like the slope Os. After a few hours we stopped at the restaurant Pasta Box located at the top of the Soldeu gondola to have a break and drink a coffee, a bit of energy to keep us going.
After the break, the slopes were a bit quieter but our legs a bit more tired! Our favourite run of the day was the Circus kids trail in El Tarter! Even if we are no kids anymore, we still have fun skiing the deep turns, crossing the bridges, and dodging the wrecking balls along this run.
Our favourite part, the music playlist that sounding on it all day long. Don't forget to check our Facebook , Twitter and Instagram for the latest updates on resort. We have been exploring the slopes of Soldeu-El Tarter and the truth is that the conditions are great!
After the last snowstorm on January 10 th , the coverage of the slopes has improved, and the quality of the snow is a grippy powder perfect for carving, with an accumulation of 80cm! The temperatures have raised reaching the 0 degrees in the middle of the day and the sun is very strong, so we recommend that you do not forget your sunscreen and lip protector.
Also, there were not queues as the resort is very quiet, so we only had a break for our legs while sitting on the chairlift. Our slope of the week is not a slope but a park!
The Coliflor Freestyle park has open this week, being the first snow park in Andorra to open for the season. We tried their boxes and jumps made for all levels. This park is in El Tarter and it is the scenery of the famous Total Fight Contest that brings the best freestylers over the world to the slopes of Andorra every year.
It has two concepts in one, a Texas restaurant lovely for meat fans and an open bar terrace with live DJs to have a drink after skiing. Now both the restaurant and the bar are open with the mandatory COVID restrictions maximum capacity, opening hours, etc.
Happy 3 Kings Day! As you may know, today is a big day in Spain and Andorra… It is the day that the Three Wise Men deliver the Christmas presents to all the kids they have behaved well during the year.
It looks like we have behaved amazingly as we woke up with the best present: A beautiful day on the slopes of Grandvalira! The temperature was marking - 10 degrees in the morning so we wrapped up ourselves before heading up to the mountain and put on some sunscreen as the sun was shinning strongly.
It had snowed a couple of centimetres over night so we were very excited to try the snow. The conditions were just perfect! Great snow quality that lasted all day long because of the freezing temperatures. Perfect visibility with a bluebird sky. And not many queues as the resort is only open for residents at the moment.
Our favourite piste of the day was Esquirol, the blue slope that heads down to the parking of El Tarter, as it was easy and super quiet, a great way to end or skiing day, when our legs couldn't resist much more. Yesterday it was one of those days you feel you are in wonderland! There was not even a cloud and the sun was shinning strong over the blue sky. It was the perfect day to be outside enjoying the fresh snow that has fallen over the last few days and that is exactly what we did!
We put on some sunscreen, took our sunglasses and went out to explore Soldeu. In the village we could see that the cold temperatures below zero have made huge popsicles on the roofs, so it was important to watch our steps! The gondola of Soldeu was running today as it is open for ski clubs, teacher trainings and activities. However, the resort won't open until the beginning of January for ski tourism. They have the yummiest homemade cakes of the village, and a wide variety of tea and coffee, and the decoration is so welcoming that it makes it the perfect place to have a coffee break around town.
You can check the pictures of our day here. Today we woke up with an opposite scenery, nonstop snow and covered skies, which means that we will end this crazy with a lot of powder! This week the snowfall has stopped, and we could enjoy some blue skies, and milder temperatures in Soldeu.
However, it looks like Santa is bringing us some fresh snow and there are some powder days on the way, so we might have a white Christmas in Andorra! Despite the chairlifts have not open yet, Grandvalira is offering a wide range of leisure and snow activities to enjoy this festive season.
In Canillo, the Montmagic Family Park has reopened today with fun activities such as the famous alpin slide the Magic Gliss and the m zipline that crosses the Forn Lake. Also, from today, the Grandvalira Adventure Centre in El Tarter sector provides a variety of mountain and adventure activities for all ages and levels, including mushing and guided snowshoe and skimo excursions.
Slowly is starting to feel a little bit more like a "normal" winter season and we are looking forward for the opening of the lift at the beginning of January. This week we tried the lunch menu at the restaurant of Hotel Naudi which has been rebuilt and it was absolutely delicious! The quality of the food and the stunning views of the slopes of Soldeu makes it the perfect choice for a special meal, maybe for a Christmas celebration? We hope your wishes come true, and Santa brings beautiful things this year!
Our Christmas wishes? To see you all soon on the slopes of Andorra! This weekend it has not stopped snowing in the town of Soldeu that has already accumulated over half metre of fresh snow! The roads have also been covered with snow so we recommend extreme caution when driving and using snow chains if you are driving to Soldeu, even though the snow plows are continuously working all day.
We have been walking around the streets of Soldeu observing that little by little more restaurants are opening, and you can see more people around the village than a few weeks ago. Tomorrow is the inauguration of Fatty's restaurant, one of the "musts" in Soldeu. They will be offering Sunday Roast during the winter with two or three course options.
After walking around the town we wanted to try all the fresh snow that has fallen, however, the ski lifts haven't open yet, but we said why not a short hike to warm up ourselves on the snow?
We walked and slided down the blue slope El Bosc a trail that connects the lower part of Soldeu with the El Tarter sector among beautiful pine forests. The snow was fun, with perfect coverage and even a little bit of powder at the edges of the track. Once we got to the base of El Tarter, we took off our skis and walked back to Soldeu for around 30 minutes more.
A beautiful walk in the snow that was totally worth the effort! It's feeling more like winter in Soldeu as temperatures have dropped below zero and the town has turned white.
It has snowed lightly all day and there is more snow on it's way, so it's time to start unpacking the winter clothes as it's getting colder. Unfortunately, we still have to wait a little bit to enjoy the slopes of Grandvalira as last night the Prime Minister of Andorra announced that they will delay the opening of the ski resorts to the beginning of January to avoid COVID transmission during the Christmas holidays.
You can check our Covid 19 information page here. We are super excited to go back to the slopes and we are waiting to see you all here in January! Meanwhile we will enjoy the snow as we can, snowshoeing, building snowmen around or just playing the snow angel! You can already book online your ski extras and tranfers for the season here with a free cancellation policy. As we countdown the weeks until the start of the ski season in Soldeu on 4th December, we're busy planning for how things will work this year, as are all our partners who look after your needs and requirements whilst on holiday.
Yes, things will be different, with extra hygiene and safety requirements, as well as social distancing on the mountain and in the village, but so much will remain the same too - the amazing mountain scenery, fresh mountain air, and fantastic people to help you enjoy your stay.

It's an upsetting and abrupt end of the season for all involved, including the mountain workers, local businesses and tourists alike, but we hope that you can understand that the decision has been made with everyone's health and welfare in mind.
I can only imagine the comedic value of watching me try to skate to the Tamarro run back to El Tarter whilst the wind, quite literally, kept me still! My friends and I headed out around Soldeu, El Tarter and Encamp today as we wanted to make the most of the sunshine. The snow was in such good condition and with both slopes being rather wide, I had lots of fun practicing my turns and getting into a good flow.
We stopped for a drink and some food at Iqos terrace in El Tarter — arguably the best place to be when the sun is shining — and there was a great atmosphere as there were lots of people around and a great DJ playing. The snow just isn't stopping! This morning, visibility on the mountain wasn't too bad and we got a few runs in before the clouds closed in. Today did, however, have the best snow conditions of the season so far in my opinion!
I skied with my family this morning who are still overcoming their ski legs, so we stuck to the lower pistes such as Gall de Bosc in El Tarter and Bosc Fosc in Soldeu.
We did venture up the Solanelles chairlift with the aim of dropping down into Grau Roig, but by this point the visibility had really reduced so we skied back down to Soldeu. In the afternoon, myself and some friends braved the wind and went up on the Llossada chairlift, down Gall de Bosc and then onto the off-piste section of the Solana bowl.
